Request to add obit on Dec.13, 2013 not posted. RONALD J. "RON" MAYO, JR. Ron Mayo, age 83, of Elmdale, KS, died Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Via Christi Hospital at St. Francis in Wichita. The son of Ronald John and Mary Emily Miller Mayo, Sr., Ronald John, Jr., was born November 2, 1930, in Hutchinson, KS. He graduated from Wichita High School East in 1950. He served in the United States Navy. He attended Purdue University, Kansas State University, and graduated from Wichita University in 1959. He and Myrna Ure were married June 12, 1957, in Wichita. He taught in Colby, KS and in Chase County at Cedar Point,Elmdale, and Cottonwood Falls. He retired in 1993, from USD 284, after teaching 28 years. He was a coach for football, track, and wrestling and taught driver's education, history, and current affairs. He and Myrna lived on a farm in rural Chase County. He was a member and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, USA, in Cottonwood Falls and served on Middle Creek Watershed and Farm Bureau Boards.He is survived by his wife, Myrna, of the home; four sons: Mark R. Mayo of Ottawa, KS, Tim S. Mayo of California, David D. (Kim) Mayo of St. Joseph, MO, and Chris M. (Janet) Mayo of Gardner, KS; a brother, James M. (Ann) Mayo of Elmdale, KS; and six grandchildren: Zackary, Tyler, Max, Ben, Rachel, and Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life service will be held Monday, November 11, at 3:30 P.M., at the Chase County Junior Senior High School Gymnasium in Cottonwood Falls. The Rev. Pat Ireland will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery in rural Cottonwood Falls with military honors conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. The family will meet friends Sunday, from 6:30 until 7:30 P.M., at the Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home. Friends may sign the book from noon until 8:00 P.M.
