Ralph Lewis McCune (Custodian)

Ralph Lewis McCune, of Hutchinson, formerly of Wichita passed away on Monday, Jan 29, 2001 at age 94.  

Mr. McCune was born April 22, 1906 in Benton, to Lewis O. and Edna Ramey McCune.  He attended elementary and high school in Benton.  After high school, he farmed and worked the oil fields.  He moved to Altamont n 1941, where he and his wife woned a farm.  In 1946 he moved to Parsons, owning a filling station.  In 1950 he moved to Wichita, where he worked for USD 259.  He retired in 1971 as the head custodian of Wichita High School West, a position he had held for 19 years.  He moved to Hutchinson in 1995.  He was a member of the first Church of the Brethren, Wichita and Community Church of the Brethren, Hutchinson. 

Survivors: wife, Orpha; daughter, Chris Harris of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Shawn Oxley of Cedar Hill, Texas, Kathy Beshears of Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces.  

Memorial was established with First Church of the Brethren, Wichita.

Marjorie Wright (Stephans)

Ralph Mc Cune was such an asset to West High.  He knew everyone and when you would see him and say, "Hi, Ralph"  he would say "yes, I am" and would give you a big smile.  Sometimes there are people you meet that you never forget and that is memory I have of Ralph.  He didn't care if you were a "somebody" or a "nobody" he would always greet you with that smile.  RIP
