AUGUSTA - Kunkel, Gary D., 69, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 in Wichita. Visitation Monday 6-8 pm and service 11 am Tuesday, March 18, 2014, both at First Baptist Church, Augusta. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Gary was born in Wichita, Kansas on November 23, 1944, to the late Freda (Sturdivan) and Leo Lee Kunkel. He retired as a machinist for Boeing and Spirit and been a lab technician for Mobil. Gary had owned and operated Garlins Private Club. He was also a member of We Four Express Band where he played rhythm guitar and sang. On January, 1962 in Wichita, Kansas he married Linda (Jobe) who survives him. He is also survived by: daughter, Christina Heatwole of Augusta; son, James Kunkel and wife Angela of Wichita; and daughter, Candace Kunkel of Augusta; sister, Sharon Andrews of Wichita; grandchildren, Kaysie Pilant (Matt) of Augusta, Chase Andrew and Jessica Kunkel; and great grandson, Kayden. He was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Kunkel and a great grandson, Hayden Pilant. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Augusta Senior Center or Cancer Center of El Dorado.
