Sheryl Anne Appel Obituary

Sheryl “Sherry” Anne Appel passed away Saturday, October 7th, 2023, at Mountain Haven, Seward, Alaska.

Sherry was born August 25, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas to Anita and Eldon Byers.

She attended Wichita State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree before moving to Alaska. Sherry lived in Little Diomede and Quinhagak, working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs as a schoolteacher before settling in Seward. She worked for the State of Alaska for Spring Creek Correctional from 1989 until retiring in 2011. Sherry loved writing and playing music. She pursued her passions, publishing her writing in the Phoenix Log and playing music with the community band. Sherry was strong in her faith and most recently attended Resurrection Bay Baptist.

She was caring, kind, and generous and left a wonderful legacy of children and grandchildren. She wanted the following to be said:

“I always loved children and making them smile. I loved listening to and playing music. I am thankful for all my family. I believe I will find joy in Heaven.”

She is preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Eldon Byers, and brothers, Randy Byers and John Byers.

Sherry is survived by, sons, Karl (Jennifer) Appel of Seward, AK, and Steven Appel of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Brooke Appel of Wasilla, AK; grandson, Braden Appel of Seward, AK; granddaughters, Bristol Appel, and Briley Appel of Seward, AK; grandson, Bryce Appel of Seward, Ak.; and granddaughter, Zoe Appel of Seattle, WA
